Spike Lee wanted to keep the foundations of his first personalization. To honor Brooklyn, where he grew up and the town that made him; include his favorite colors — orange and blue; and achieve a technically adventurous design while keeping a distinctly urban look.
We solicited our most advanced artisans to design the prototypes — from the research phase to the final model. Every detail was meticulously considered to adhere to Spike Lee’s brief.
The project demanded all our resources — from the oldest savoir-faire to today’s cutting-edge techniques. A total of 30 artisans worked on it for 24 months. The polishing on the strap, dial varnish, wire-cut mass and the 4130 movement (fashioned by our master sander)… each piece has been hand-crafted by artisans of the very highest level.
The rose gold movement was skeletonized, sanded and angled entirely by hand and the skeleton dial embodies “The City That Never Sleeps” with its orange decal and matte blue finish. We created a larger 6h counter — a first for us — inscribed with “Br60klyn,” while the openwork rotor bears the initials “BKYN” in pink. As per Spike’s wish, we developed an additional strap in orange rubber with a velcro fastening. To make this ambitious idea a reality, we called in rubber experts, Rubber B.
“My career has been my life’s work and I’m constantly seeking to improve. Laziness is not an option — success takes heart and tireless effort. This is what I try to teach my students: you need to work, work, and then work some more. Like the master watchmakers who have labored for hundreds of hours to achieve a level of excellence and continue to surpass themselves. When I look at their work on my wrist, I’ve got so much love and respect for their talent”.
