Prelude
The Juan Pablo Montoya Challenge that soon became « La Montoya » among watch enthusiasts is undoubtedly the meeting of all superlatives. It has put a lot of stress on our dreams, our passion, with this unthinkable challenge: to revisit one of the most iconic timepieces of this decade. We wanted this project to equal this huge champion, who trusted us with this absolutely exceptional project. We’ve made with Juan Pablo Montoya, for the first time, a skeleton version of his favorite timepiece, which will remain for him synonymous with his most vibrant successes. Juan Pablo Montoya decided to realize the second version of his project in gold.

It took more than two years of research and development for The Juan Pablo Montoya Challenge to finally see the light of the day. A hundred craftsmen from all over Switzerland, among the best, and sharing the same goal: that the sporty skeleton version of the champion’s iconic Daytona® model stands up to its unwavering and timeless reputation, all while providing exceptional detail and execution. Satin lugs, mix of brushing and sandblasting: we wanted to achieve a special polishing that gives this piece a contemporary and timeless look, highlighting all the splendor of the skeletonized caliber.

The Bezel
Machined in a forged carbon block, the Tachymeter bezel has been developed in our workshops. This fusion of materials, composite materials, and lightness is the signature of a very personal timepiece.
The Dial
The dial resonates with the automotive world. The skeleton and angling are handcrafted. The counters are individually painted by hand and represent the colors of the Colombian flag, as a discreet tribute to this huge champion’s origins. The red arrow Chrono hand is sandblasted. We replaced the counter hands with red, yellow, and blue hands. Each hand is individually polished by hand.
The Rotor
We have redesigned a complete openwork rotor. Manufactured entirely in 22-carat grey gold, it enhances the beauty of the angled movement, as well as every detail of this exceptional timepiece.
Two years of development were necessary to succeed in embodying this caliber of exception. Reworked in the Vallée de Joux with immense precision, the 4130 Caliber of Juan Pablo Montoya’s timepiece has been dismounted piece by piece, cut, angled, and finished by hand. It took hundreds of hours to achieve this true work of art, which highlights the greatness and beauty of the unique Swiss know-how. As a final touch, we have replaced the original back of with a transparent sapphire case back, one of our trademarks. It reveals all the beauty of the movement magnified by the angling of all its elements.

I’ve always been passionate about the Rolex® Daytona®, I won the Daytona 24 three times, and it’s a watch that really relates to all of my racing. So I was amazed when the idea came along to turn my Daytona® into a skeleton. Artisans de Genève embodies what I wanted in somebody who would build a watch for me. They are that somebody that was happy to go with no limits to how a watch should be built. The more you look at it, the more you like it.
Juan Pablo wanted a second personalization in gold. This interpretation takes over « La Montoya » codes, dear to Juan Pablo, and stands out with its unique aesthetic, embodied by the yellow gold. Each detail was thought to combine the sporty allure and the finesse of this material.
