Tribute to 6240 Tropical

An emblematic figure of the motor racing world for nearly 40 years, the Rolex Daytona is a coveted timepiece cherished by collectors. With the Tribute to 6240 Tropical, we wanted to pay a tribute to this legend, and most particularly to some famous and rare pieces that acquired over time a very special and sought after “tropical” patina.

Service not available

Because we provide crafts services made in a very limited capacity, Artisans de Genève is not able to satisfy all demands.

It took us several years of research and development to achieve a natural oxidation process that would lead to a uniform amber patina. Our craftsmen will carefully prepare each dial, and send it to the Bahamas to mature under the tropical climate. The maturation time depends on the color of the patina expected, and that we offer you to choose: 5 weeks for a dark patina, 7 weeks for a lighter tone.

The Bezel

The ceramic bezel of the 116520 model has been replaced by a bakelite bezel, an element typical of the model of the 1970’s, and entirely made by hand in our workshops, on old machines.

The Dial

Each dial is reworked by hand, upon request. We apply a special treatment before submitting the piece to our exclusive natural oxidation process that will make the counters fade to a brown to rusty patina, depending on the chosen maturation time. The dial is then finished by hand.

The Pushers

We replaced the screw down pushers with the longer “millerighe” pushers, developed in our workshops.

The mark of time

As time goes by, timepieces age and shape beautifully. We have worked to reproduce this passage of time, so each dial of the Tribute to 6240 Tropical acquires its own natural patina, and its uniqueness

The glass has been replaced by a plexi glass that we have developed in our workshops. The case has been machined and finished by hand to give it the look of the original Rolex Daytona 6240 model. Delicate and refined, the hands discretely embellish the richness of the “tropical” dial. Each hand is diamond polished so that it acquires the shape of the original hands. As a final touch, we applied a vintage 12h/6h polishing entirely handmade.
