A Travel Souvenir

Travelling is about discovering new horizons, sometimes to the point of losing track of time. For Mr. L. V., a watch collector and seasoned traveller, his Patek Philippe® Aquanaut® 5164 is far more than a timepiece, it is a travelling companion. It follows him from one stopover to the next, keeping course between continents.

It is this watch, originally equipped with a dual time zone function, that he entrusted to Artisans de Genève for his personalization. For the first time, our workshop have skeletonized a so-called “Dual Time” calibre.

After a lifetime spent travelling the world, Mr. L.V. is entering a new chapter. Autumn Leaves pays tribute to this moment in his life, when memories have become as precious as the journeys themselves. The warm rose gold and ebony brown details echo the colours of autumn, celebrating the richness of every experience collected along the way.

This watch is like a travel souvenir to me. It follows me everywhere and reminds me of that unique feeling of waking up on the other side of the world, in a different time zone. For my personalization, Artisans de Genève perfectly understood my vision: preserving the watch's original complication while adding personal details.

Focus On Modifications

The Skeletonized Calibre

Travel opens new perspectives and pushes beyond familiar boundaries. Here, skeletonization reveals what is usually left unseen: the mechanical architecture concealed beneath the dial. An exploration made all the more remarkable by the fact that it is applied to a dual time calibre, one of the most demanding movements to skeletonize.

A Technical Challenge

This is the first time that Artisans de Genève skeletonized the calibre 324 of an Aquanaut® 5164. This calibre is designed to display two independent time zones simultaneously. Every intervention on the movement must therefore preserve the mechanical integrity of this complication.

The Sapphire Dial

The original dial has been replaced with a transparent sapphire dial to show the work on the mouvement.

Other Modifications

Rotor

The oscillating yellow gold rotor has been skeletonized and finished with circular brushing, becoming visible through the case back.

Strap

The original black strap has been replaced with a deep ebony brown Rubber® strap. A warm and distinctive shade inspired by landscapes encountered throughout Mr. V.’s travels.

Hands

The color of the hands was changed to rose gold and reworked with SLN GL C1 luminescent treatment to enhance readability.
